2017 Doug Marshall Charity Classic

Known as the “premier” golfing event in Grande Prairie, the Doug Marshall Charity Classic is one of our most popular tournaments. Open to both men and women golfers, the 2016 tournament sponsored by Doug Marshall Motor City, raises money for the Nitehawk Recreation Area.

In its 24th year, this tournament is attended by individuals in the Grande Prairie Region, and appeals to all income levels and stages of life. It features an 18 hold shotgun start, live and silent auctions, lunch and buffet dinner, and guaranteed prizes. Located at a premiere golf course, and with such large diversity in attendance, there is ample opportunity for your sponsorship dollars to reach many different people at many different income levels.

In addition, you have the opportunity to be associated with a Community Owned, Not-for-Profit Ski Area that has been part of many Grande Prairie Families lives and been instrumental in starting the love of Winter Sport for many community children. The Grande Prairie Ski Club o/a: Nitehawk Recreation Area teaches over 6000 school students each year to ski & snowboard and welcomes over 35,000 visitors to the slopes throughout the winter season.

What is the Reading University?

Reading University is a three week summer program intended to increase the literacy skills of children in grade 3 who are not yet reading at grade level.

Reading University was first offered in Grande Prairie in the summer of 2009 with 32 students and 1 district participating. In 2015, 115 students from across our 3 districts graduated from the program.

Reading University is an incredible program. It is an early intervention project that addresses literacy outside of the typical classroom setting. Students are bused to and from their “campus”. Everything from supplies to healthy lunches are provided. More importantly, the student/teacher ratio is enhanced to 1 instructor for every 5 children. That ratio drives results and builds confidence in the children. Our professors work miracles!

What makes Reading University unique? The program is 100% community funded, it packs a lot of heart, and it works!
